Bret Hart Reveals Why He Returned To WWE, WrestleMania & More

Bret Hart did an hour interview on Team 960 in Calgary this morning. I only caught bits and pieces of it because I was working but there didn't seem to be much new to report. Some interesting things that he did say:

- He is hopeful that both his father and Owen would be inducted into the Hall of Fame but acknowledged that there may be some issues with Owen given Martha's feelings.

- He said he originally approached WWE about coming back this time and that they took a while to get back to him but finally did and were of course interested.

- He decided to come back because he asked himself how long he could hold a grudge and he felt that if he was ever going to do it, now was the time because of his body's ability to do it and because he thought it might help the Hart Dynasty members.

- He said that the guys today are mostly pretty good on the road and "in bed by midnight" not like in the "Niedhart days".

- He seemed really excited about the DVD that's coming out and said it had lots of good stuff on it that had never been seen including some Stampede stuff.

- He said that his brother Ross sold the Stampede library to WWE but that sale did not include the footage of Bret from Stampede.

- He said he is really having fun with his current run and when the interviewer asked him about midgets in wrestling he said he got along really well with Hornswoggle and hung out with him more that pretty much anybody else backstage.

- Bret said he expected Wrestlemania to be a great Hart family reunion and expected himself and a lot of his family to be there.

McMahon's Reaction To Danielson, RAW Guest Hosts Ending

Current plans call for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin to be the final Raw guest host on Mar. 15 when the show emanates from San Diego, thus ending an eight month initiative.

» WWE.com garnered 13.0 million unique visitors for the month of December, up from 12.1 million in November.

» Vince McMahon was reportedly pleased with Daniel Bryan's performance on last night's premiere episode of WWE NXT as he felt they made him "a star" in one night as a result of his interaction with The Miz and match with Chris Jericho.

As things stand, Sting is not on the 3/8 Impact show, and in fact, his name isn't mentioned in creative meetings. He may be done with the company after missing last month's PPV and the following Impact TV tapings.-
Shannon Moore has signed his TNA deal.

WWE & Jim Ross Comment On Undertaker Pryo Malfunction

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross posted a message on Twitter.com/jrsbbq reacting to the pyrotechnics accident that occurred at the WWE Elimination Chamber: “Undertaker is okay from what I understand but ‘lucky,’ He’s as (tough) as they come without question.” Read more tweets from Jim Ross at PWTweets.com.

- WWE spokesman Robert Zimmerman has commented on the pyrotechnics malfunction that almost set the Undertaker on fire during his entrance at Elimination Chamber.

described what happened as a “mistiming” with the pyrotechnics. “Thank God he was fine. It basically amounted to a sunburn. It wasn’t over a large area of his body, just a short area, just a little bit on his chest.” He also stated that the Undertaker was checked out by a ringside doctor before competing in the match.

* Shelton Benjamin d. CM Punk to qualify for MITB. Rey distracted Punk, who turned around into Paydirt.
* Edge d. Miz with The Spear. It was a good back and forth match.
* Edge said that he doesn't want to wait. He wants Batista for the dark main event now!
* Edge d. Batista by DQ when Jericho hit The Codebreaker. Matt Hardy, CM Punk and Kane all also hit finishers on each other for fun I guess.-->

Money In The Bank Ladder Match Scrapped From WM, Replaced With PPV

Following the announcement of the new WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 18, 2010, PWMania.com has learned the Money in the Bank Ladder Match has been scrapped from the Wrestlemania XXIV lineup and will no longer be a staple at the annual pay-per-view of the year.
WWE implemented the new Money in the Bank pay-per-view based on responses they received from fans on a recent online survey.
The Money in the Bank concept is considered a tremendous draw and WWE officials are hoping the concept will greatly increase PPV buys prior to Summerslam.
WWE officials are trying to make their B-level shows more meaningful with the gimmicks.

Eric Bischoff Interview

TNA creative executive Eric Bischoff has nothing but positive things to say about the first six weeks working in the trenches for TNA. He says the writing staff and the wrestlers have a strong work ethic and it's refreshing to work with younger talent embracing Hulk Hogan's and his ideas to enhance the product.
In a phone interview on Thursday afternoon, Bischoff said his "Internet reputation" preceded him when he arrived in January, but he feels he's been able to show wrestlers that he means business and whatever stories the younger talent heard about him from the past have been quickly put to bed.
Bischoff said his ideal goal as creative executive is to prominently feature one new wrestler every month and grow that wrestler's character so he's elevated to the level of other top stars in TNA."A.J. Styles was our first project," Bischoff said. "His character has more life and become larger than before."If Styles was the first project in January, then it seems The Pope D'Angelo Dinero is this month's project and Abyss will be March's featured star after TNA gave Abyss a strong push on tonight's Impact.
Bischoff believes some of the newer stars on the TNA roster were underutilized before Hogan and he arrived in TNA. He said he's "thrilled" to take part in helping elevate wrestlers on the roster, as he feels that's one of his goals in TNA.
Constantly building, developing, and featuring one new star every month could give TNA a potential competitive advantage against WWE Raw on Monday nights, especially if WWE continues to devote TV time to familiar top stars on Raw.
On the topic of working with Vince Russo, Bischoff said it's been a "very positive" experience.
He said their collaborations have been productive and he doesn't believe there has been one creative disagreement they couldn't resolve."It would be a lie if I said there has been anything negative," Bischoff said about working with Russo
"If I see red and he sees green, we've been able to come as close as possible to resolving it every time."After TNA discarded the six-sided ring, questions arose on whether TNA will make any more changes to the look and feel of the product. Bischoff said the mark of any good TV show is constantly looking to improve production value."It's a work in progress," Bischoff said. "TV is constantly evolving weekly, monthly, yearly."

Elimination Chamber Stats, WWE-War Games Update, MITB Matches

The first Money in the Bank qualifying matches for WrestleMania are scheduled to begin on next week’s RAW.

- WWE’s Jason Robinson recently told Sky Magazine that the Elimination Chamber structure costs $250,000 to put together and takes 24 ring crew members to assemble. The 16-ton structure is stored in Newark and requires a special 500-foot flatbed truck to transport it.

- There was at least discussion within WWE this past week of possibly making the Bragging Rights pay-per-view five-on-five match a War Games match, similar to the one WCW did

SmackDown Result 17/02/2010

* Chris Jericho comes out to start SmackDown and says he will win the Chamber. Edge comes out to a big pop.

He talks about spearing Taker last week. Jericho tells Edge to pick the RAW Champion for WrestleMania for his own good. The lights flicker and Edge spears Jericho.

* Kane vs. Dolph Ziggler takes place until Drew McIntyre comes down in a suit. Dolph tries to take advantage but Kane chokeslams him for the win. Drew comes in and hits his finisher on Kane but Kane reverses it

* Rey Mysterio cuts a promo backstage and says he will win the Elimination Chamber.

* John Morrison & R-Truth vs. CM Punk & Luke Gallows is announced for tonight.

* Cryme Tyme defeated Trent Baretta and Caylon Croft in a good tag match.

* John Morrison is interviewed and says his ankle won't make him miss the Chamber. Truth comes in and says he will win the Chamber but tonight, he and Morrison will beat Punk and Gallows. * CM Punk and the Straight Edge Society come out. Punk cuts a promo and says he will win the belt at Elimination Chamber this Sunday. Tons of heat for Punk.

Punk & Gallows vs. Morrison & Truth ends in a no contest. What looked like Undertaker's pyro went off during the match, everything stopped but nothing happened. Match is restarted. Morrison was really playing up his ankle injury. The referee called for the bell when Morrison went to kick Punk but kicked the ring post and went down in pain. SES beats Morrison and Truth down until Rey Mysterio comes in for the save. They beat him down and pose in front of Rey to a ton of heat.

* Teddy Long is shown backstage. He says he will take action against Shawn Michaels for super kicking him on RAW. Mickie James comes in and Vickie Guerrero announces it will be Mickie vs. Michelle McCool next week with Vickie as the referee.

* Maria, Matt Hardy and The Great Khali vs. The Hart Dynasty is up next. The Dynasty gets the win when Natalya pins Maria. Maria walks up the ramp pissed off with Matt right behind her apologizing.

* Maria is shown backstage arguing with Matt Hardy about him letting their team down. Michelle McCool and Layla come in and make fun of them.

* Edge vs. Batista is next. No pyro for Batista, simple entrance but a big pop. Edge comes out to a big pop also. Batista stalls to start the match. Edge takes the mic and says John Cena was right about Batista. Finally they wrestle and it's a good match. Edge spears Batista and Taker's bell hits and he appears in the ring. Taker chokeslams Edge. Taker chases Batista off. Chris Jericho appears in the ring and hits the Codebreaker on Edge. Taker comes back out and stares down Jericho to end SmackDown after Jericho motions to the World Title.

New Details On WWE NXT: The Full Concept Revealed

After all the speculation about what WWE’s new NXT show would be like, we finally have some new concrete information – it’s got nothing to do with science fiction or conspiracies.
Entertainment industry publication
Variety reveals that WWE NXT will be a reality-based show, similar to Tough Enough and UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter,” that will feature eight rookie wrestlers from WWE’s developmental system (Florida Championship Wrestling) as they work their way towards a spot on the main WWE roster. Each rookie will be paired up with a veteran WWE superstar as their mentor, “with egos often getting in the way, as they learn the ropes of competing in the ring in front of live audiences, creating characters and speaking on camera.”

The weekly show will be broken into seasons, with two or three seasons airing per year. It will feature a totally new “look and feel” for WWE programming.
“Syfy is excited to continue our partnership with WWE, Vince and his team with this innovative live event-reality show,” said Syfy president Dave Howe. “The ‘NXT’ rookies take the challenge of our new tagline ‘Imagine Greater’ to heart as they embark on their ultimate dream quest to be the next generation of revered heroes and champions in the fantastic arena of the WWE

Bret Hart, Vince McMahon reunited, and it feels so good

Bret Hart can only imagine what his late parents and brother Owen would think about his World Wrestling Entertainment return.

"They'd say that hell froze over," a chuckling Hart said.
Twelve years ago, the odds of that happening seemed greater than Hart ever working for WWE owner Vince McMahon again. The two had one of the bitterest splits in pro-wrestling history. Concerned the "Hitman" was going to leave for rival World Championship Wrestling while still holding the WWE title, McMahon ordered a surprise match finish that allowed Shawn Michaels to defeat an unknowing Hart via submission when referee Earl Hebner abruptly called for the bell. Hart was so furious that the bout didn't unfold as planned that he legitimately floored McMahon off-camera with a backstage punch.
The hard feelings that stemmed from the 1997 "Survivor Series" were real, but time has healed those wounds. Hart and McMahon gradually rebuilt their relationship to the point that the former suggested a storyline for the two to work together again. Hart and McMahon are now weaving "Survivor Series" fallout into a storyline that will culminate with a March 28 match at "Wrestlemania 26" in Glendale, Ariz.

"I want to move on," Hart said Tuesday night in a telephone interview from his home in Calgary, Alberta. "I made a big fuss out of all that happened. I wrote a book about it. There was a documentary ('Wrestling with Shadows'). I held out (from WWE) for a long time because of my pride. In the end, I think I made my point.

"Some people feel it wasn't the right thing for me to go back. But there's only one person in Bret 'The Hitman' Hart's shoes and it's me ... This is a lot of fun for me. It sure beats shoveling snow."

Hart's return is even more remarkable considering he had a stroke in 2002, two years after suffering a career-ending concussion in WCW. Hart, 52, said he has physical limitations and that the 64-year-old McMahon "isn't exactly Kofi Kingston." But Hart said he can still "move around enough" to get a quality match out of McMahon and participate in limited tussles on "Monday Night Raw" (9 p.m. EST, USA Network).

"I'll never put on the performance I want to have, but I'll be able to do enough to entertain and give a good show," said Hart, one of the industry's top in-ring technicians during his storied 25-year career. "I'm very careful about what I do and allow myself to do and what can be done to me. WWE has gone through great effort to ensure all that and make sure I'm comfortable with everything.

"I don't want to go out there in a wheelchair like (Hulk) Hogan. I know people watching me are saying, 'He's not exactly a cheetah out there.' But at same time I do remember being in a wheelchair when I had my stroke. The thought of doing what I'm doing right now is beyond everything I imagined."
Hart believes Hogan's signing with TNA Wrestling and that company's plan to run head-to-head competition on Monday nights has given McMahon additional motivation to make their angle work.

"Vince is just as focused and involved as I remember him ever being," Hart said. "This whole (storyline) seems to have lit a fire under him. He's very competitive.
"My guess is TNA and Hogan can't be much of a factor, but Vince doesn't like anyone messing around on his turf. He doesn't want this to become any kind of WCW rivalry like before. He wants to be king."

McMahon isn't the only WWE fixture with whom Hart has made amends. He also has reached out to Michaels and Paul "Triple H" Levesque, both of whom had long-standing problems with Hart that were exacerbated by "Survivor Series" and the aftermath. Hart describes his current relationship with Levesque as "very cordial but not overly friendly." There is more of a thaw with Michaels, who publicly buried the hatchet by hugging Hart last month on "Raw."
"When I came back, I didn't know if the whole thing with Shawn would erupt again," Hart said. "The truth is, Shawn has been real good with the whole thing. You can tell this is a weight lifted off his back, my back and I think even Vince to a certain degree. It feels like a new start."

"Survivor Series" will never be completely forgotten. "Wrestling with Shadows" will be re-released this summer along with an accompanying DVD on Owen Hart, who fell to his death in 1999 during a WWE ring entrance gone awry. Hart's 2007 autobiography, "Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling," which chronicles "Survivor Series," also will be released in paperback later this year.
By that time, Hart might not still be working with WWE. Hart's current agreement runs only through "Wrestlemania" and the induction of his late father, Stu, into WWE's Hall of Fame that same weekend (WWE will be releasing a three-disc Hart family DVD in early April).

Hart, though, didn't dismiss the possibility of staying with WWE in some capacity for the long haul.

"I'm trying to turn a negative into a positive," Hart said. "I think this is good for wrestling fans. I know for a lot people this whole thing seems quite real. If I can deliver realism in today's wrestling

TNA in Norfolk, Va.: Kurt Angle vs. A.J. Styles with Ric Flair involved, Jarrett vs. Daniels, Angle advertises Impact on Mondays "real soon

TNA house show reportFebruary 12, 2010Norfolk, Va. at the Ted Constant CenterReport by Ed Carr, Torch VIP member
I arrived in the building to the voice of Don West explaining that Ric Flair was signing autographs, but he was gone by the time I got to the table. Not a packed house, but a decent crowd. Jeremy Borash handled MC/ring announcer duty.

(1) Generation Me (Max & Jeremy) defeated Lethal Consequences (Jay Lethal & Consequences Creed) with their 450/moonsault combo. Nice athletic spots that popped the crowd. Good opener.(2) Jesse Neal defeated Homicide with a facebuster type move. Neal came out with the American flag, but still had his heel look from the last time he was on TV. Norfolk is a big Navy town and he was introduced as a former Navy sailor to a huge pop. The crowd chanted "USA" at Homicide even though he was introduced as being from Brooklyn, N.Y., but he played into it like a true heel. (3) TNA Knockouts champion Tara & Angelina Love defeated the Beautiful People (Velvet Sky & Madison Rayne & Lacey Von Erich) in a handicap match when Tara pinned Madison after a Widow's Peak. A man named Chase was introduced as Tara's manager. Not sure if this will play out on TV or just a local thing.

(4) "TNA Founder and The King of the Mountain" Jeff Jarrett defeated Daniels after the Stroke. Daniels did the old heel stalling to start out. Jarrett was over huge and you could see him smiling about it. Daniels was great as he hit three successful shoulder blocks and demanded the referee raise his arm in victory. Jarrett made a comeback and hit his finisher for the win. After the match, Jeff thanked the crowd for their support.(5) Beer Money (James Storm & Robert Roode) defeated British Invasion (Brutus Magnus & X Division champion Doug Williams) with the Driving While Investing (DWI). Beer Money received the biggest pop up to this point and had one side of the arena chanting "Beer" and the other "Money." As a side note, there was a guy wearing a blue amateur style singlet with one strap pulled down imitating the Big Show, but he looked more like Adam Pearce. You had to be there to see it.(6) "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero defeated Desmond Wolfe with DDE double knee smash. The Pope just has this charismatic aura about him that makes you want to cheer him. On the opposite side, Desmond portrays the cocky heel very well so. They played off each other very well. Earl Hebner was introduced as the referee for the main event, but some guy with a headset told JB that Hebner was suspended by Hulk Hogan. Security came into the ring and escorted Earl out of the building while the crowd chanted, "Na na na na, hey, goodbye." Slick Johnson replaced him as the ref.

(7) TNA World Hvt. champion "The Phenomenal" A.J. Styles (w/Ric Flair) defeated Kurt Angle after a belt shot to retain the TNA World Title. This match got the most heat of all and they even had the formal ring introductions by JB. Loud "Whooos" for Flair every time he interfered. He even grabbed the house mic and yelled, "Shut Up!" The crowd just whoo'ed again. Funny. There were also dueling chants of "Let's Go Kurt" and "Let's go A.J." dueling chants. A.J. hit the Pele kick, his back flip into inverted DDT, and his springboard forearm smash. Kurt hit his overhead belly-to-belly and three consecutive German suplexes, but when he tried his running belly-to-belly while his opponent is on the tope rope, he slipped and almost came down on his head. They were able to adjust in mid-air. The finish saw Angle apply the anklelock, but Flair pulled the ref out of the ring. Angle chased Flair into the ring, but Ric gave him two low blows. The crowd chanted "No more babies." Angle made a comeback and had Ric in the anklelock when A.J. hit him with the title and made the cover. A.J. had this great look on his face as he clutched the title like he thought he would never hold it again. After the matched, Kurt thanked the military members in attendance and thanked everyone for watching Impact on Thursdays and to continue watching on Mondays real soon.JB informed the crowd that it was not over. The babyfaces would be coming around the ring to sign autographs and take pictures while Ric Flair would be in the ring taking pics for $20. Flair came out and said no matter how hard he tried to get everyone to boo him, they wouldn't. He talked briefly about his history in Norfolk and then proceeded to take pictures in what was a long line. Even though there is a PPV in two days, none of the wrestlers looked like they were phoning it in. Everyone put in a good effort and the crowd was hot throughout the show.

With the release of WWE’s fourth quarter 2009 financial data earlier today, we have details on the performance of the company’s four Q4 PPVs. For the three months ending December 31, 2009, WWE’s PPV revenue rose from $15.9 million in 2008 to $16.3 million in 2009.
The overall increase in Q4 PPV buys is attributed to a the success of WWE’s new gimmick-themed PPVs, which out-performed their 2008 counterparts. However, this year’s Survivor Series took a sharp hit, which kept the revenue increase to only $400,000 for the quarter over 2008.

Here’s the data

Hell in a Cell did 283,000 buys, up 7% from No Mercy 2008 (261,000).

Bragging Rights did 181,000 buys, up 15% from Cyber Sunday 2008 (153,000).

Survivor Series totally bombed. The show did 235,000 buys, down 26% from 2008 (319,000)

Tables, Ladders & Chairs did 228,000 buys, up 15% from Armageddon 2008 (193,000)

John Morrison Not Injured, WWE Returning to Canada

John Morrison worked the SmackDown/ECW live event last night in Ecuador, teaming with Matt Hardy in the first match of the night. Morrison and Hardy defeated The Hart Dynasty. Morrison appeared to be fine as his injury reported earlier this week is obviously a work. Sources report that yesterday when Morrison talked about his ankle being broke in three places on his Twitter page, he was simply "joking" and "playing with the fans."

TNA News: Hulk Hogan interview - talks about Monday night timeslot, admits to mistakes in TNA

Hulk Hogan claims TNA isn't to the point yet of having a Monday night timeslot locked in with Spike TV, but he feels their "positive energy" every day that tells him they're getting closer to working out a deal.Hogan is pulling back the reigns on what he said in January about wanting desperately to be on Monday nights after he says he's learned more about how the TV industry works."We're pushing hard for Mondays, trying to get there, a lot of variables, but it looks like it's much better than it did yesterday," Hogan said on the Monday Night Mayhem radio show yesterday. "I'm just starting to figure this crap out right now dealing with networks, ad sales, cross-overs, going to the top of the hours, quarter-hours."Hogan said they've been "getting good news" for the last week as they push hard for Monday nights, but now he's shifting the heat to the "smart marks" - his scapegoat term the past week - for pushing for Monday nights."There's stuff that's already been scheduled, there's budgeting issues, there's shows for the new season, so it's not like 'Okay, let's go live on Monday nights.' Nothing is that easy. A lot of the fans, a lot of the 'smart marks' are saying 'we should go live Monday nights.' They have no idea what it entails, I'm just now having people sit me down after 30 years of wrestling and go 'Guy, you know what it's all about to work the match and be on the road.' Now you're dealing with the economy, the network, and the way the audience flips and changes the channel," Hogan said. "Right when you think you have it figured out what attracts the right demo, it starts to mold, and manipulate, and shape."Hogan did admit TNA can't just "plug in the old NWO" and do the same storylines again like they did in WCW. He said they're learning from their mistakes a month into running TNA and figuring out how to present the product."It's not a cookie-cutter thing...you just lock down like you did when you ran against Vince (McMahon) with Ted Turner (in WCW). I thought that would work just to work it in and make a crack, but things are different than they two-three months ago because of the economy," Hogan said. "When you figure in the networks and the head of Viacom, and they're watching the minute by minute numbers for 18-34 (year olds), it's not like you could just plug in the old NWO and do it like we did when we punked Vince out. It's ever-changing moving parts, so we did learn from our mistakes; like when you get successful sometimes, you can get too full of yourself."Hogan also gave a nod to the ratings dip this past Thursday on Impact when they lost approximately 350,000 viewers after the all-time ratings peak on Thursday nights on January 28."We have learned from our mistakes, and we are learning, almost like on the job training, because some of the stuff that worked two weeks ago, didn't work last week, so we're digging in and have our ears and eyes to the ground," he said.

Bret Hart Says He Wouldn't Work With Bischoff/Hogan, Impact Rating Drops

-- On his Facebook account, Bret Hart made some interesting comments regarding TNA. He wrote the following: "It was nice seeing Jeremy Borash, a longtime friend of mine, from TNA while I was in Nashville. He hung out with me and we never once talked wrestling. Some feeble minded idiot who saw us in plain view tried to start the rumour that I might be heading to TNA next; although why anyone would ever think I'd let Hogan and Bischoff anywhere near my Hitman persona again is truly beyond me." Bischoff referred to Borash as a "mark" last week on his Twitter account for posting a photo of himself and Hart after their dinner, which also included several other TNA staffers. -- After TNA's iMPACT! posted its highest rating in company history one week prior week, it took a step back with last Thursday's show. Last week's episode scored a 1.2 cable rating (1.6 million viewers), down from the previous week's record high 1.4 (1.9 million viewers) number. Sources say that Shawn Michaels is not the biggest fan of the CM Punk "savior" storyline on SmackDown.- At press time, sources were unclear as to whether The Rock's recent interview comments about not wanting to wrestle John Cena were honest or a fun way to plant the seeds for an inevitable future match.Regarding his plans, the word is that he will be involved in a short-term angle when Summerslam rolls around in August.

What Happened After Last Night's RAW with Bret & Others

When the show went off the air last night, John Cena came out to make the save for Bret Hart, running Vince McMahon and Batista off.Sheamus vs. Cena for the WWE Title was the dark main event. JR: Highlights from the Royal Rumble, Tonight's RAW & More

- Jim Ross has updated his blog with the highlights below:* Enjoyed watching the Royal Rumble on PPV as the show closing last few minutes really made the show for me.* CM Punk had a memorable Rumble match. Great mic work. Punk's hairy chest, as I pointed out during the show on Twitter, makes him look even more like a villain. Punk had a stellar night.* Edge was the star of the night and him winning the Royal Rumble disrupts the Road to Wrestlemania and makes February's Elimination Chamber PPV more intriguing. That PPV is only 3 weeks way. I like the episodic way that several issues are progressing.* Anxious to see the Hitman=McMahon confrontation Monday night on Raw from Nashville. I'll miss being there with King as we always went downtown to Jack's BBQ near the Grand Old Opry for lunch.
